Governor Dapo Abiodun has reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Government to ensuring the safety and security of students and educational institutions, announcing a significant reinforcement of security measures around schools across the state.

Speaking during his Democracy Day address, the governor disclosed that his administration has intensified surveillance operations around schools, deployed security personnel to strategic locations, strengthened collaboration among security agencies, and adopted modern technology to monitor vulnerable areas as part of efforts to safeguard learners and educators.

Abiodun noted that the initiative was driven by the need to protect children and create an atmosphere conducive to learning amid growing security concerns across parts of the country.

According to him, the safety of students remains central to the government’s vision of building a prosperous and secure future for Ogun State.

“Recognizing that the safety of our children is fundamental to the future of our state, we have intensified security measures around educational institutions. This includes increased surveillance, deployment of security personnel to strategic locations, stronger inter-agency collaboration, and the use of modern technology to monitor critical areas,” the governor stated.

He explained that the enhanced security architecture is designed to proactively identify and neutralize threats before they escalate, while also deterring criminal activities around schools and educational facilities.

The governor stressed that beyond physical security, the measures are intended to provide peace of mind for parents, teachers, and school administrators by ensuring that educational institutions remain safe spaces where academic activities can flourish without fear or disruption.

Abiodun reiterated that his administration would continue to invest in initiatives that promote the well-being of children and strengthen the overall security framework of the state. He emphasized that securing schools is not only a responsibility of the government but also a critical investment in the future of Ogun State.

He further assured residents that no effort would be spared in protecting pupils, students, teachers, and all stakeholders within the education sector, adding that the government remains vigilant in addressing emerging security challenges.

Supporting the governor’s position, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, affirmed that the School Protection Squad established by the Nigeria Police Force remains fully operational and committed to its mandate.

According to Babaseyi, the squad continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding schools across the state through regular monitoring, intelligence gathering, and rapid response to potential security threats.

“The Ogun State Police Command’s School Protection Squad is active, vigilant, and fully operational, remaining steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of students, teachers, and educational institutions across the state,” he said.

The renewed focus on school security underscores the Ogun State Government’s determination to prevent security breaches within educational institutions and sustain a safe learning environment for thousands of pupils and students.

The development is expected to reassure parents and guardians that proactive steps are being taken to protect their children, while strengthening confidence in the state’s educational system. As security remains a critical component of sustainable development, the government’s latest measures signal a firm commitment to preserving the safety, stability, and future of Ogun State’s next generation.
