Kabba Day 2026: Obaro urges indigenes to return home, invest in community development

The Obaro of Kabba, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Dele Owoniyi has called on sons and daughters of Kabba, both at home and in the diaspora, to return home and participate in the 2026 Kabba Day celebration organised by the Kabba Development Union (KDU).

The celebration, scheduled for November 6 and 7, 2026, is themed “Consolidating Peace and Strategically Mobilising Resources for Sustainable Development in Kabba.”

The theme reflects the community’s emphasis on unity, peace and collective action as critical drivers of sustainable development.

Oba Owoniyi, while inviting Kabba indigenes to the celebration, stressed the importance of unity in advancing the development of the community.

“Our strength has always been our unity. When Kabba speaks with one voice, development follows,” the monarch said.

He urged every son and daughter of Kabba, irrespective of their location, to return home and contribute to the community’s development agenda.

“I invite every son and daughter of this land, wherever you are, to come home and be part of this moment,” he added.

The festivities will commence with a Gala Night on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., bringing together Kabba indigenes, investors, public officials, development partners and other stakeholders.

The Grand Finale will hold on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kabba Township Stadium.

The event is expected to feature cultural displays, masquerades, traditional drumming and dancing, as well as other activities showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kabba and Okun land.

A major highlight of the Grand Finale will be the official launch of the Kabba Development Fund, which has a target of ₦500 million.

The fund is expected to provide resources for critical development projects and initiatives within the community.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. Olorunmowaju Magnus Oluwafemi, said the celebration would go beyond entertainment and homecoming.

“We have talked about Kabba’s potential for a long time. This year, we want every son and daughter to come home not only to celebrate, but to invest in the Kabba they want to see,” he said.

According to the organisers, Kabba Day 2026 will provide an opportunity for the community to assess its progress, recognise individuals who have contributed to its development and collectively discuss the future direction of Kabba.

The Kabba Development Union has therefore invited members of the public, the media, corporate organisations, investors, development partners and friends of Kabba to participate in and support the celebration.

The organisers said the event would reinforce the importance of cultural identity, unity and collective responsibility in building a sustainable future for the community.

“Our culture is our strength, our unity is our future,” the KDU stated.
