Rt. Rev. Prof. Obeka: A life dedicated to God, education, human development

The birthday celebration of the Vice-Chancellor of Wesley University, Ondo, Rt. Rev. Prof. Sunday Samuel Obeka, provides another opportunity to celebrate a distinguished servant of God, scholar, administrator and leader whose life has been marked by commitment to faith, education, service and human development.

For those who have had the privilege of working with him or coming under his leadership, the occasion is more than a celebration of another year.

It is an opportunity to acknowledge a life of purpose and the contribution of a man who has continued to combine Christian ministry, intellectual engagement and institutional leadership.

As Vice-Chancellor of Wesley University, Ondo, Rt. Rev. Prof. Obeka occupies a strategic position in the advancement of higher education and the development of young people.

The responsibility of leading a university goes beyond administration. It requires vision, discipline, wisdom, patience and the ability to bring people together towards a common institutional goal.

His leadership has therefore placed him in a position where his decisions, counsel and example have implications for students, members of staff, parents, stakeholders and the wider community.

A leader with a sense of service

Leadership, in its truest form, is fundamentally about service. It is about accepting responsibility, providing direction and creating an environment in which others can grow and fulfil their potential.

For me personally, celebrating Rt. Rev. Prof. Sunday Samuel Obeka is also an opportunity to express appreciation for the privilege of working under his leadership.

A boss may occupy an office, but a true leader leaves an impression on the people around him.

Through his guidance, encouragement and counsel, Rt. Rev. Prof. Obeka has demonstrated qualities that go beyond the formal responsibilities of his office. His leadership has provided opportunities for learning, growth and professional development.

His fatherly disposition and willingness to provide direction are qualities that those around him can appreciate.

Leadership is not measured only by the number of projects completed or policies implemented. It is also measured by the people whose lives have been positively influenced in the course of one’s journey.

In this regard, the celebration of his birthday is also a celebration of the many people who have encountered his leadership in different capacities.

Faith and education

One of the remarkable aspects of Rt. Rev. Prof. Obeka’s leadership is the intersection between his Christian calling and his academic responsibilities.

The leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, therefore, carries an important responsibility in sustaining this vision.

And for his family and friends, it is a moment to celebrate the husband, father, brother, mentor and friend behind the public office.

Prayer for greater years

As Rt. Rev. Prof. Sunday Samuel Obeka adds another year, the prayer is that God will continue to grant him wisdom, strength, good health and divine direction.
