Ogun 2027: APC names Olamilekan candidate, petitions IGP, DSS against Hunye

All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned Abayomi Hunye as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election and petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the State Security Service (DSS) over what the party described as alleged impersonation.

The APC also asked the security agencies to investigate, arrest and prosecute Hunye over his alleged continued presentation of himself as the party’s governorship candidate.

The party’s disclaimer and petition letters, sighted by Eagle 102.5FM, Ilese-Ijebu, were issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, amid the intensifying dispute over the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State.

In a disclaimer signed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the APC stated that Hunye remained suspended and therefore lacked what it described as the legal or moral standing to represent the party in any capacity.

The party identified Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan as its duly nominated governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.

According to the APC, the names of Olamilekan and Abiodun had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, with acknowledgment slips issued by the electoral body confirming the submission on August 7, 2026.

The party said Hunye’s suspension originated from a petition submitted by the Executive Committee of Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area on March 23, 2026.

The petition, according to the APC, raised allegations of “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities.”

The Ipokia Local Government Executive Committee subsequently ratified the suspension on March 27, 2026, citing provisions of Article 21 of the APC Constitution.

The Ogun State Working Committee later approved the suspension at a meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on April 7, 2026.

The state party structure subsequently notified the APC’s National Screening Committee for governorship aspirants of the ratification on May 5, 2026.

The APC warned individuals and groups against conducting political activities with Hunye under the party’s name.

It said anyone transacting political business with him “under the guise of the APC” would be doing so at their own risk.

The party also cautioned media organisations against granting Hunye platforms to present himself as an APC representative or candidate.

According to the disclaimer, the party’s legal team had been directed to pursue contempt proceedings where necessary.

In separate petitions dated August 24, 2026, the APC’s Director of Administration, Ayoola Peter Olajolo, approached the Inspector General of Police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and the Director General of the DSS.

The party alleged that Hunye’s conduct amounted to impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and violations of provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The APC urged the security agencies to invite Hunye for questioning and investigate the allegations.

It further requested that he be prosecuted if the investigations establish the alleged offences.

The party also asked the agencies to restrain Hunye from further parading himself as the APC’s governorship candidate in Ogun State.
Records cited by the party indicated that the petition to the Police was received at Force Headquarters on August 24, while the DSS received its copy the same day at 6:39 p.m.

The APC pledged to provide the necessary cooperation through its national and Ogun State structures to facilitate any investigation by the security agencies.

The latest development further escalates the dispute over the APC’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 Ogun State election.

While the party maintains that Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan is its duly nominated candidate, its petition against Hunye signals a widening legal and political confrontation over who is entitled to represent the APC in the governorship contest.

The allegations contained in the petitions remain allegations by the APC, and any determination of criminal liability would be subject to investigation and due process by the appropriate authorities.
