APC endorses Governor Aliyu unopposed in peaceful Sokoto primary election

Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general elections following a consensus endorsement at the party’s primary election held at the state secretariat in Sokoto.

The exercise, which was peaceful and orderly, produced Governor Aliyu as the sole aspirant after party stakeholders unanimously affirmed his candidacy.

The primaries were conducted under the supervision of a national electoral committee led by Muhammad Mukhtar Birniwa, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also present to monitor compliance with electoral guidelines. Security agencies were deployed to ensure a smooth and hitch-free process.

Declaring him the party’s candidate, officials of the APC described the process as transparent and reflective of internal democracy, as party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders expressed broad support for the governor’s second-term ambition.

In his acceptance remarks, Governor Aliyu expressed gratitude to party members and stakeholders for their confidence in his leadership, noting that his re-election bid would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing development projects across the state.

He pledged to deepen reforms and strengthen service delivery aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

“I commend the chairman and the entire electoral committee, as well as INEC officials, for ensuring a smooth and credible process,” the governor said, adding that his administration remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Sokoto State.

He also appreciated the support of APC stakeholders in the state, particularly the former governor and party leader, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, whom he credited for his guidance and mentorship within the party structure.

Governor Aliyu further praised the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the President’s policies have continued to shape national development efforts and strengthen governance across the country. Bola Tinubu

According to him, the support of the people of Sokoto State remains a strong motivation for his administration, adding that his renewed mandate would focus on expanding infrastructure, youth empowerment, and economic opportunities.

Earlier, Senator Wamakko commended the governor for his developmental strides, describing his leadership as impactful and people-oriented.

He noted that the APC in Sokoto State has remained united and committed to delivering good governance through democratic processes.

The State APC Chairman, Haruna S. Adiya, also praised the governor’s performance, highlighting ongoing infrastructural development projects and empowerment programmes targeting youths and women across the state. He said the party remains confident in Governor Aliyu’s ability to continue delivering meaningful development.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goronyo, Deputy Governor Engineer Idris Muhammad Gobir, former Deputy Governor Chuso Abdullahi Dattijo, Ambassador Shehu Abubakar Wurno, members of the National and State Assemblies, APC stakeholders, youth and women groups, and other party supporters.

With the consensus endorsement, Governor Ahmed Aliyu now formally carries the APC flag into the 2027 governorship race in Sokoto State, setting the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched political contest.
