Prof. Anyaehie leads healthcare revolution at UNIZIK with Smart Care Initiative

In a bold move aimed at transforming healthcare delivery within the academic environment, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has unveiled Mobile Clinics and Digital Health Monitoring Solutions under the Care365 Initiative in partnership with SiliconHub Limited.

The initiative, introduced under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, is designed to improve access to quality healthcare services and promote digital health innovation across the university community.

The deployment marks another milestone in the university’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the welfare of students and staff while aligning with global best practices in healthcare delivery.

As part of the initiative, one of the mobile clinics was stationed at the University Medical Centre, while another was deployed to the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel to provide easier and quicker access to healthcare services for students residing within the hostel environment.

The Smart Care Deployment integrates modern technology with healthcare delivery systems, providing innovative medical support aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility, and real-time health monitoring for members of the university community.

Speaking on the development, the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Jane Nkolika Ezeonu, commended the Vice-Chancellor for what she described as a remarkable achievement within a short period of his administration.

According to her, the initiative reflects the university management’s commitment to prioritizing healthcare innovation and improving the welfare of students and staff.

Dr. Ezeonu noted that the deployment of the mobile clinics would significantly improve access to healthcare services, encourage preventive healthcare culture through regular medical check-ups, and reduce pressure on existing health facilities on campus.

She further explained that the mobile clinics would support routine screenings, immunization programmes, outreach services, and provide rapid medical response during emergencies.

Students residing at the Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel also expressed appreciation over the development, describing the initiative as timely and highly beneficial.

Some of the students applauded the Vice-Chancellor for selecting their hostel as one of the locations for the deployment, noting that the initiative would greatly improve healthcare accessibility and convenience for hostel residents.

The initiative also introduces telemedicine access to specialists when required, thereby expanding healthcare opportunities for students and staff without the limitations of physical distance.

The partnership with SiliconHub Limited further underscores the university’s commitment to digital transformation and sustainable healthcare development.

The company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ngozi Joseph Odumuko, is an alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a respected technology leader with footprints in both Nigeria and the United States.
