Use your influence to defend Fubara, FredFish appeals to Uzodimma-led PGF

A youth activist and Chairman of Moral Compass for the Activation of Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria, Dr. Tom FredFish, has called on members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to rise above political silence and collectively defend justice, fairness, and democratic principles in the ongoing political situation involving Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Dr. FredFish made the call while reacting to recent political developments in Rivers State, expressing concern over what he described as an alleged attempt to politically sideline Governor Fubara and members of his political camp.

According to him, loyalists of the governor are allegedly being screened out and denied political opportunities, while individuals who recently aligned with the party structure are being favored because of their perceived loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He argued that such actions threaten internal democracy and encourage a political culture where allegiance to influential individuals is placed above commitment, consistency, and democratic participation.

Dr. FredFish stressed that Governor Fubara deserves the same political recognition, protection, privileges, and opportunities enjoyed by every governor elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress across the federation.

He maintained that the governor should be allowed to freely pursue a second-term ambition without intimidation, political obstruction, or selective treatment within the party structure.

“The Progressive Governors Forum must do more than remain silent observers. They must stand firmly with one of their own and defend the principles of fairness and justice within the party structure,” he stated.

The activist specifically called on the forum, led by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, to mobilise members of the forum for a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, the governors should collectively demand that Governor Fubara be granted the freedom and political backing to contest for a second term and enjoy all rights and privileges due to him as a serving APC governor.

Dr. FredFish further noted that the governors possess enough collective influence, political weight, and moral authority to defend democratic values and prevent what he described as the normalization of selective treatment and internal political intimidation.

“What is happening to Sim Fubara today can happen to any governor tomorrow if leaders continue to keep quiet in the face of injustice. The time has come for the governors to speak with one voice and protect the integrity of democratic leadership within their party,” he added.

He warned that continued marginalisation of loyal party members in favour of political newcomers could discourage young Nigerians and grassroots supporters who believe in loyalty, service, and active democratic participation.

The activist concluded by emphasizing that democracy can only thrive in an atmosphere where justice, fairness, equality, and institutional integrity are protected above personal interests and political dominance.
