Moniepoint CEO empowers 100 female business owners with hands-on entrepreneurship training

Group Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint Inc.,Tosin Eniolorunda, has reinforced his commitment to advancing financial literacy and economic inclusion among women entrepreneurs by hosting a comprehensive Entrepreneurship Masterclass in partnership with ALX.

The four-hour virtual session brought together 100 female business owners from across Nigeria in an intensive, hands-on training designed to transition participants from subsistence trading to building scalable and sustainable enterprises.

Structured around three core modules, The Model, The Money, and The Plan, the masterclass departed from traditional lecture-style learning, focusing instead on practical engagement.

Participants worked through real-time exercises, including developing a one-page Lean Canvas, using pricing and profit calculators to determine break-even points, and designing actionable 30-60-90 day business roadmaps with measurable performance indicators.

At the end of the session, each participant received a resource pack to support continued implementation of the tools and strategies introduced during the training.

One of the highlights of the programme was a deep dive into building scalable business models.

Facilitators guided participants on defining their target customers, clearly articulating business problems, crafting compelling value propositions, and identifying effective distribution channels.

Another critical segment focused on pricing strategies and financial fundamentals, equipping attendees with the knowledge and confidence to understand their numbers and make informed growth decisions.

A dedicated product session was led by Iwalola Sobowale, Director of Customer Experience and Market Research at Moniepoint, who introduced participants to the company’s suite of business solutions.

She demonstrated how tools spanning payments, business banking, and operations management — particularly Moniebook — can help entrepreneurs streamline operations and drive efficiency.

The initiative underscores Eniolorunda’s long-held belief that financial inclusion must go beyond access to financial services.

Speaking previously at the 2024 International Financial Inclusion Conference organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria, he emphasized that inclusion should not be treated as a mere buzzword or checklist, but must be rooted in measurable economic participation supported by data.

Research continues to show that women-owned businesses often exhibit stronger repayment discipline and higher engagement with financial tools when given the right support, investing in women entrepreneurs is both socially impactful and economically beneficial. Eniolorunda has consistently maintained that “it is actually more profitable to serve women.”

Reiterating the importance of the initiative, he stated that while technology has made it easier to access financial tools, knowledge and confidence remain the key drivers of meaningful growth.

“We’re at a point where technology can significantly accelerate business growth, but access alone isn’t enough. What matters is giving entrepreneurs the knowledge and confidence to use these tools effectively. This masterclass is about equipping women with insights they can apply immediately,” he said.

The programme aligns with the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5, which promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in expanding access to financial services and economic opportunities.

It also builds on Eniolorunda’s broader interventions in financial literacy through the Tosin Eniolorunda Foundation, including initiatives targeting female STEM students at Obafemi Awolowo University.

By combining practical training with access to digital tools, the masterclass represents a strategic step toward closing the gender gap in entrepreneurship and ensuring that more women-led businesses in Nigeria can scale, compete, and thrive in an increasingly digital economy.
