15kg ‘Scottish loud’ hidden in Chisco Transport bus intercepted on Lagos-Ibadan Highway

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a Chisco Transport luxury bus along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, recovering 15 kilograms of “Scottish Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, concealed in a compartment of the vehicle.

According to the Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, two suspects, Kingsley Nsofor and Opara Ifeanyi, were arrested.

In another Lagos operation, NDLEA officers in Mushin intercepted a truck carrying assorted goods to Onitsha, seizing 26,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup and arresting two suspects, Adesunloye Dada and Chibuzor Chime.

In Abia State, NDLEA operatives arrested nonagenarian Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu, 93, at his residence in Umuagbaigba, Amavo Nkwogu village, Osisioma Local Government Area on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

A search of his home led to the recovery of 7.7 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.

The suspect reportedly confessed that he ventured into the illicit drug trade over a year ago after working as a truck pusher and later learning painting and tiling.

He also claimed to have been using cannabis since 1959, before turning it into a business.

In a separate operation, NDLEA uncovered an international drug trafficking network following the arrest of a 41-year-old Ivorian national, Gohouri Michael, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano. He was apprehended on February 16, 2026, during the outward clearance of passengers on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Milan, Italy, via Addis Ababa.

Gohouri was found to have ingested 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kilograms and was to be paid €5,000 upon successful delivery in Milan.

Investigations later revealed that he had been shuttling between Lagos and Enugu before moving to Kano, where he ingested the drugs.

Further intelligence uncovered a key figure behind the operation, leading to the arrest of a 69-year-old medical doctor, Dr. Chudi Daniel Ofomata, in Ogun State.

He was tracked to his residence at Teachers’ Land Estate in Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, where NDLEA operatives arrested him on March 27, 2026.

Recovered from the doctor were 63 grams of promazepam and seven ampoules of promethazine injection. He was subsequently transferred to Kano for further investigation.

In Ogun State, NDLEA operatives also arrested three suspects — Azeez Sanni, Olayinka Oke, and Adekunle Adeyemi — with 34 kilograms of skunk during a raid at Sango Under Bridge, Sango Ota.

Similarly, in Imo State, a 26-year-old female suspect, Ayoka Akinwale, was intercepted along the Onitsha-Owerri road with 56.2 kilograms of skunk.

In Niger State, a couple, Abdullahi Umar and his wife, Adama Umar, were arrested at their residence in Takuti village, Lapai Local Government Area.

A search of their home led to the discovery of 118 kilograms of skunk concealed in their kitchen.

In Borno State, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road intercepted a trailer conveying vehicle spare parts from Nnewi. A search revealed 42,290 tablets of Rohypnol, 82,700 millilitres of codeine syrup, and 10,000 millilitres of pentazocine injection.

The owner of the consignment, Eleje Ibeabuchi, was later arrested in a follow-up operation.

A raid on the notorious Tora Bora drug hub in Abuja led to the arrest of eight suspects and the seizure of 11.516 kilograms of skunk.

One of the largest seizures was recorded in Edo State, where NDLEA operatives intercepted two trucks along Warrake Road in Auchi.

The vehicles, loaded with cartons of beer, were found to be concealing a combined 7,245 kilograms of processed skunk. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the haul.

Beyond enforcement, NDLEA sustained its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign nationwide, conducting sensitisation programmes in schools, motor parks, and communities across Lagos, Kogi, Katsina, Kano, Cross River, and Osun states.

Commending the officers and men involved in the operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised commands across the country for maintaining a balance between drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against illicit drug trafficking while expanding preventive education and public awareness initiatives.
