Lagos extends personal income tax filing deadline to Mid-April

Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns to April 14, 2026, offering taxpayers additional time to comply with statutory obligations.

According to the Head, Corporate Communication, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, the extension was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, who noted that the statutory deadline for filing annual tax returns remains March 31 each year.

According to Subair, the decision to extend the deadline was taken to give taxpayers additional time to accurately complete and submit their returns, thereby enhancing compliance across the state.

He emphasized the importance of timely tax filing, urging individuals to make compliance a routine aspect of their financial responsibilities.

“Filing of annual income tax returns should be treated as a civic duty and embedded as a consistent personal practice,” he said.

The LIRS boss reiterated that electronic filing through the Service’s eTax platform remains the only approved method for submission, noting that manual filing processes have been completely phased out.

He described the eTax platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible around the clock, enabling taxpayers to conveniently fulfill their obligations from any location.

Subair also advised taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is accurately captured during the filing process to avoid errors or delays.

The Service encouraged individuals requiring assistance to visit any LIRS office or reach out through its official communication channels, including its website, social media platforms, email support, and customer care hotline.

The extension is expected to ease the filing process for many Lagos residents while reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving tax administration and voluntary compliance.
