Anambra Police debunks detaining journalist, confirms standard protocols at State Assembly

Anambra State Police Command has debunked the rumour of arresting and detaining a journalist at any point.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the personnel on duty merely observed standard security protocols by confirming the individual’s identity and the authenticity of his invitation to the Anambra State House of Assembly facility.

This procedure is routine, non-punitive, and aimed solely at ensuring the safety and integrity of the facilities and personnel.

The comment of the ‘enemy’ that was mentioned during the incident is a ‘situational statement’ that occurred following the unsatisfactory explanation to the officers which resulted in a minor rift but was later resolved.

Also, further inquiry made reveals that the individual who invited the journalist is not a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly or staff of the institution but was also there on the invitation of the revered institution.
