Goodluck Nigeria Movement has described the massive turnout recorded during a political rally in Sokoto as a clear indication of Nigerians’ desire for political change, saying no court order can cancel the people’s enthusiasm.

The Convener of the movement, Emma Umerah, said the huge crowd witnessed in Sokoto on Wednesday demonstrated the growing support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, particularly among traders and other northern stakeholders.

According to him, the reported three-to-five-hour traffic gridlock stretching from Sultan Abubakar III International Airport towards Ilorin Road reflected the magnitude of the crowd and public interest in the rally.

Umerah said the development should not be viewed merely as a political gathering but as an expression of the aspirations of Nigerians seeking a new direction for the country.

“Three to five hours of gridlock from Sultan Abubakar III Airport to Ilorin Road shows that Nigerians want a change. A court order cannot cancel a crowd,” he said.

He maintained that northern traders and other supporters remained resolute in their political position, despite the court ruling, adding that the movement would continue to mobilise its members through peaceful and democratic means.

Umerah, however, appealed to members of the movement in Sokoto, Kano and Kaduna to remain calm and peaceful pending the outcome of the appeal process.

He urged supporters to respect the rule of law and refrain from any action capable of disrupting public order, stressing that the movement remained committed to achieving its political objectives through constitutional and democratic channels.

The movement also called on its members and supporters to remain united and focused, saying the massive Sokoto turnout had further demonstrated the importance of listening to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
