Methodist Media Conference names Rev. Ihedigbo editor of Methodist News

Media Conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria has appointed Rev. Stanley Ihedigbo as the Editor of Methodist News, the official news publication of the Church.

The appointment was announced by the Head of the Media Conference, Methodist Church Nigeria, and Editor-In – Chief, Methodist News, Very Rev. Godwin Enenche, who said the decision was part of efforts to strengthen the editorial quality and professional management of the publication.

Rev. Ihedigbo, a Methodist minister and experienced journalist, is the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Mirror Newspaper, a national newspaper with both print and digital platforms.

His appointment to oversee the editorial affairs of Methodist News is expected to bring his experience in journalism, newspaper publishing, editorial management, communication and media strategy to the publication.

According to Very Rev. Enenche, the Media Conference considered Rev. Ihedigbo’s professional experience and understanding of both the Church and the media industry as important to the continued development of Methodist News.

He said the publication remained an important platform for reporting the activities, programmes, achievements and contributions of the Methodist Church Nigeria, adding that effective editorial leadership was necessary to sustain its relevance and credibility.

Enenche noted that the media remained an important instrument for communicating the mission and activities of the Church to its members and the wider society.

He expressed confidence that Rev. Ihedigbo would bring his wealth of experience to the assignment and contribute to the continued improvement of Methodist News.

The appointment comes at a time when the media landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, with readers increasingly accessing news through digital platforms, social media and online publications.

Against this background, the new Editor is expected to contribute to the development of editorial content that will effectively serve both the traditional readership of Methodist News and audiences engaging with Methodist Church Nigeria through digital platforms.

Rev. Ihedigbo’s professional career spans journalism, newspaper publishing, strategic communication and media management.

As Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Mirror Newspaper, he has been involved in editorial planning, news gathering, reporting, headline development, publication production and digital journalism.

His experience as a Methodist minister is also expected to provide an additional perspective in understanding the Church’s structure, activities and communication needs.

As Editor of Methodist News, Rev. Ihedigbo will be responsible for providing editorial direction for the publication and coordinating the development of news stories, features, interviews, reports and other editorial materials.

He is also expected to work closely with the leadership of the Methodist Church Nigeria, the Media Conference, dioceses, ministers, correspondents and other contributors to ensure effective coverage of activities across the Church.

The publication serves as an important record of the activities and life of the Methodist Church Nigeria, providing information on Church programmes, leadership engagements, evangelism, worship, social interventions, education, conferences and other developments.

The appointment is therefore expected to further strengthen the publication’s role in documenting the activities of the Church and communicating them to its members and the general public.

Rev. Ihedigbo is expected to bring particular attention to professional journalism standards, including accuracy, clarity, balanced reporting, proper attribution and effective presentation of news.

The new Editor will also have the opportunity to explore innovative approaches to content production and distribution as the Church continues to respond to changes in the contemporary media environment.

Ihedigbo Commends Methodist Leadership
Speaking on his appointment, Rev. Ihedigbo expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Methodist Church Nigeria for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to bring his professional experience and commitment to the assignment.

He particularly used the opportunity to appreciate the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, JP, for what he described as his exemplary leadership qualities and commitment to the growth and development of the Church.

Ihedigbo also expressed his appreciation to the Secretary of Conference, Rt. Rev. Dr. Babatunde Taiwo, for his administrative support, quality leadership and contribution to the effective administration of the Church.

According to him, the support and leadership provided by the Prelate and the Secretary of Conference have continued to create an enabling environment for ministers and other workers of the Church to contribute meaningfully to its mission and development.

He said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the Church in the new capacity and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.

Ihedigbo said he would work closely with the Media Conference and other stakeholders to ensure that Methodist News continues to serve as a credible, informative and professionally managed publication that reflects the life, mission and activities of the Methodist Church Nigeria.

He also pledged to uphold the values of responsible journalism, accuracy, fairness, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of his editorial responsibilities.

The Media Conference is expected to continue providing the necessary institutional support for the publication while working with the new Editor to achieve its editorial objectives.

The appointment of Rev. Stanley Ihedigbo as Editor of Methodist News represents a new responsibility in his professional and ministerial career, combining his experience in journalism with his service within the Methodist Church Nigeria.

As he assumes office, expectations are that the publication will continue to serve as a reliable platform for reporting the activities of the Methodist Church Nigeria and providing readers with timely and professionally produced information about the life and work of the Church.
