5th Cycling Lagos: Aquafina, Union Bank, Golden Penny, others throw weight behind event

Aquafina, the premium bottled water brand of Seven-Up Bottling Company (SBC), has thrown its weight behind the fifth edition of Cycling Lagos, with the brand set to provide hydration support for cyclists and other participants during the event.

The 5th Cycling Lagos is scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Under the partnership, Aquafina will establish hydration points at strategic locations, including the starting and finishing points and designated sections of the cycling route.

Marketing Manager, Energy & Hydration, Seven-Up Bottling Company, Omokehinde Thomas, confirmed that participants will have access to Aquafina water throughout the event, particularly along key sections of the route, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.

The company is also providing financial support towards the successful staging of the event.

The hydration initiative is expected to provide cyclists with essential refreshment as they navigate the designated routes while enhancing the overall experience for participants and spectators.

The development comes as other leading brands, including Golden Penny Foods, Adron Homes, Checkers Custard, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc and AIICO Multishield, have announced their support for the fifth edition of Cycling Lagos.

The growing corporate backing is expected to add further momentum to the event, which has become one of Lagos’ major cycling, sports and lifestyle initiatives.

Speaking on the increasing support, President/CEO of Cycling Africa Limited, Bamidele Adeleye, said the participation of major brands underscores the growing recognition of cycling as a platform for promoting wellness, sustainable transportation, environmental responsibility and meaningful brand engagement.

“Seven-Up Bottling Company (SBC) was part of this great initiative when we started in 2018, and we are particularly grateful to have you back as a partner for the 5th edition,” Adeleye said.

He expressed appreciation to SBC, Adron Homes, Golden Penny Foods and other partners for identifying with the initiative and contributing to its growth.

Adeleye also highlighted the success of the fifth Cycling Lagos webinar held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, which brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss practical approaches to waste management and the expansion of recycling capacity in Lagos and Nigeria.

According to him, Cycling Lagos, organised by Cycling Africa Limited in collaboration with the Lagos State Cycling Association, has grown beyond a sporting event to become a platform for promoting cycling culture, healthy living, road safety, environmental sustainability and youth participation in sports.

He said the organisers remained committed to providing a safe, inclusive and engaging experience for participants, with relevant stakeholders and support agencies expected to assist with traffic management, security, medical services and overall event coordination.

The 2026 edition is themed “Trash to Treasure: Unlocking Recycling Capacity for a Sustainable Future,” reflecting the organisers’ commitment to using cycling to promote environmental consciousness and encourage Nigerians to view waste not simply as a nuisance but as a resource capable of generating economic opportunities.

The grand finale will feature several activities, including the Children’s Race, Celebrity Race and competitive cycling events.

Cyclists are expected to ride through designated routes across Lagos before returning to the National Stadium, Surulere, for the conclusion of the event.

The fifth Cycling Lagos is expected to attract cyclists, cycling clubs, sports enthusiasts, families and other participants from Lagos and different parts of Nigeria.

The organisers said the event would further promote cycling as a healthy, environmentally friendly and sustainable means of mobility while strengthening public awareness around fitness, environmental responsibility and active lifestyles.
