Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed delight over the safe return of the students and teachers who were kidnapped in Oyo State several months ago, describing their rescue as a welcome development for their families and the nation.
In a statement issued on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party said it was encouraged by the successful rescue of the victims, despite the limited details surrounding the operation.
The PDP commended the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies, as well as all individuals and organisations whose efforts contributed to the safe return of the abducted students and teachers.
According to the party, the successful rescue demonstrates the importance of coordinated efforts in addressing security challenges and restoring hope to affected families.
The opposition party stressed that no Nigerian, particularly schoolchildren and their teachers, should be forced to endure the trauma of abduction simply for pursuing education.
While celebrating the rescue, the PDP urged the Federal Government to take more decisive and proactive measures to prevent similar incidents across the country.
It noted that improving intelligence gathering, strengthening security around schools and vulnerable communities, and ensuring prompt responses to security threats are critical to safeguarding lives and property.
“The protection of lives and property remains the first responsibility of government and is the minimum that our country and its citizens deserve,” the party stated.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving national security and ensuring that educational institutions remain safe environments where students can learn without fear of violence or criminal attacks.
