Kelechi Iwuagwu represents Nigerian excellence at 2026 UNA-USA Capitol Hill Advocacy Summit

A Nigerian-born professional resident in the United States, Kelechi “PRagmatic” Iwuagwu, has recorded another significant international achievement after earning selection to participate in the 2026 United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) Advocacy Summit, one of the leading advocacy platforms promoting support for the United Nations and its global development agenda.

Iwuagwu was chosen through a highly competitive national selection process that brought together only 133 advocates from across the United States.

The selected participants converged in Washington, D.C., where they underwent intensive policy and advocacy training before engaging members of the U.S. Congress and Senate on issues relating to continued bipartisan funding for critical United Nations agencies.

The advocacy mission came at a crucial period when funding reductions are posing serious challenges to several UN programmes responsible for delivering humanitarian assistance, healthcare, education, peacebuilding and emergency relief to millions of vulnerable people worldwide.

Participants urged American lawmakers to maintain support for major UN agencies, including UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO and United Nations Peacekeeping operations, stressing the indispensable role these institutions play in promoting global stability, sustainable development and humanitarian assistance.

For Iwuagwu, who is based in New York, the selection represented more than personal recognition. It also reflected the increasing visibility and influence of Nigerians in the diaspora in shaping international policy conversations and contributing to global development initiatives.

Professionally, Iwuagwu serves as a Data Analyst and Life Safety Director at Warner Bros. Discovery’s corporate headquarters in New York, where he combines expertise in data analysis, operational safety and strategic planning. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he has remained deeply committed to advocacy and community development, consistently supporting initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

His advocacy efforts focus on advancing quality education, youth empowerment, gender equality, community development and stronger international partnerships aimed at improving lives across the globe.

Reflecting on the experience, Iwuagwu described his participation as both an honour and a responsibility.
“Being selected among just 133 advocates from across the United States was a privilege I do not take lightly,” he said.

“Standing on Capitol Hill and engaging with congressional offices on issues that affect millions of lives across the world reminded me that advocacy is not reserved for diplomats alone. Every informed citizen has the power—and the responsibility—to help shape a better future.”
