Nelson Nwafor joins Abia anti-corruption monitoring committee, FENRAD celebrates appointment

Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has congratulated its Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, following his inauguration as one of the Civil Society Organisation (CSO) representatives on the Abia State Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee.

The organisation described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Nwafor’s longstanding commitment to transparency, accountability, good governance, and the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Umuahia by FENRAD’s Head of ICT and Communication, Comrade Emmanuel Ugochukwu, the organisation noted that Nwafor’s years of advocacy for citizens’ rights, institutional reforms, environmental justice, and public sector accountability have earned him widespread respect within civil society and positioned him to make meaningful contributions to the committee’s mandate.

According to FENRAD, the Executive Director has consistently championed policies that promote responsible governance, transparency in public institutions, and greater citizen participation in decision-making processes.

The organisation expressed confidence that Nwafor would deploy his extensive experience in governance, policy advocacy, civic engagement, and institutional reforms to strengthen the implementation of the state’s anti-corruption framework across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

It stated that his professional integrity and wealth of experience would significantly enhance the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee’s efforts to ensure compliance with accountability standards, improve public service delivery, and promote prudent management of public resources.

FENRAD further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen transparency and institutional integrity, stressing that the fight against corruption requires sustained collaboration among government institutions, civil society organisations, development partners, and citizens.

The organisation maintained that collective action remains critical to building strong democratic institutions, restoring public confidence in governance, and ensuring sustainable development across Abia State.

It also commended the Abia State Head of Service for recognising the important role of civil society in promoting accountability and good governance through the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee.

According to FENRAD, the inclusion of credible civil society representatives demonstrates the government’s willingness to embrace participatory governance and independent oversight in the implementation of anti-corruption policies.

The organisation expressed optimism that the committee would usher in a new era of transparency, efficiency, accountability, and responsible public service delivery in the state.

While congratulating the newly inaugurated committee members, FENRAD wished them a successful and impactful tenure, expressing confidence that their work would contribute significantly to strengthening institutional accountability and advancing the anti-corruption agenda in Abia State.

The statement concluded by once again congratulating Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor on his appointment and reaffirming FENRAD’s readiness to continue working with government agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders to promote accountability, environmental justice, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
