AIG Akpanudom warns FCID officers against misconduct, orders strict adherence to due process

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, has charged officers and men of the command to uphold professionalism, discipline and strict adherence to due process in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The directive was issued during a general lecture and strategic meeting with sectional heads and officers held at the FCID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, where critical operational and administrative matters affecting the effectiveness and integrity of the Department were reviewed.

Addressing the officers, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, FCID Annex Lagos, ASP Mayegun Aminat,the AIG stressed the need for personnel to maintain the highest ethical standards while carrying out investigations and other official assignments.

He warned that any act capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force would not be tolerated.

As part of measures aimed at strengthening operational integrity and curbing corrupt practices, AIG Akpanudom announced an immediate ban on the operation of Point of Sale (POS) outlets within the FCID premises and surrounding areas.

According to him, the directive aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police and is intended to safeguard the security and credibility of the facility.

The police chief noted that POS activities around police formations are often exploited for unethical transactions and other practices inconsistent with the standards expected within a professional law enforcement environment.

The AIG also directed that all intelligence reports generated by officers must be properly vetted and verified by sectional heads before submission. He charged senior officers to intensify supervision of personnel under their command to ensure compliance with established professional procedures and reduce incidents of misconduct.

On investigative operations, Akpanudom made it clear that land-related disputes should not be handled by the Department, insisting that officers must strictly confine themselves to criminal investigations within the ambit of the law and established policing procedures.

He further cautioned officers against acts of indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, urging them to respect constituted authority, maintain proper decorum and uphold the chain of command at all times.

The AIG reaffirmed the commitment of the FCID Annex, Lagos, to the mission and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, noting that accountability, integrity and quality service delivery remain central to effective policing.

He warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct or violating professional ethics would face appropriate disciplinary action, while encouraging personnel to remain dedicated to national service and the protection of public trust.
