While studying Computer Science at university, he felt increasingly disconnected, like a creative mind trapped in a rigid system. Though he passed his exams, deep down, he knew he was not walking in his true purpose.

In 2013, during a nationwide strike under former President Goodluck Jonathan, fate intervened. With academic activities paused, YolyBoy stepped into a studio and recorded his first official track, “Mr. DJ.”

That moment was transformative.
It was more than just music; it was validation. Proof that a young man from a farming background could create something powerful and meaningful.

From that point on, there was no turning back.
Building from scratch: The hustle years, determined to carve his own path, YolyBoy made a bold move in 2019. He built his own recording studio in Adamawa State from the ground up.

Without industry connections or financial backing, he relied solely on personal savings, farm work, and relentless determination.

Inside that modest studio, he became more than an artist. He evolved into a complete creative force, teaching himself music production, mixing and mastering, artist management, branding, and performance.

He wasn’t just chasing fame; he was building knowledge and control over his craft.

Finding his sound

By 2021, his artistry had matured. Songs like “Cry,” “One Love,” “Gum Body,” and “Deep Feeling Inside” showcased his unique blend of Afropop infused with emotion, resilience, and Northern identity.

His music began to reflect not just sound, but story, deeply rooted in lived experience.

The Lagos leap
Comfort was never the goal.
With just ₦30,000, a bag, a Bible, and unwavering belief, YolyBoy relocated to Lagos, Nigeria’s entertainment capital.

He arrived not as a hopeful dreamer but as a prepared creative professional: a trained producer, skilled mixing engineer, performer, and content creator.

The journey in Lagos was anything but easy. He walked long distances, built connections from scratch, learned aggressively, and faced rejection head-on. Yet, he refused to break.

In the same period, he founded YBM (YolyBoy Music) in Yola, a platform dedicated to nurturing young creatives and building a self-sustaining entertainment ecosystem in Northern Nigeria.

This milestone positions him as one of the first mixing engineers from Adamawa State to achieve national recognition in live gospel production.

In addition, he stands out as a digital entrepreneur, currently among the few artists from Adamawa State with a monetized YouTube platform, reflecting his understanding of the modern music business.

In 2026, YolyBoy expanded his creative frontier into filmmaking.
