Eid Celebration: LASTMA deploys officers, warns against traffic offences in Lagos

General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Lagos and across Nigeria as they prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, assuring residents of seamless traffic flow throughout the festive period.

In a statement signed by Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, Bakare-Oki congratulated the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, commending their discipline, patience, and spiritual devotion.

He urged them to sustain these virtues beyond the fasting period, particularly in their daily conduct on the roads, stressing the importance of orderliness and strict adherence to traffic regulations.

While conveying his goodwill message, the LASTMA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing traffic laws, warning that there would be zero tolerance for violations before, during, and after the celebrations.

He cautioned motorists, commercial drivers, and other road users against reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised off-loading, driving against traffic, and other unsafe practices capable of endangering lives and causing avoidable congestion.

Bakare-Oki stated that LASTMA had already put in place a comprehensive and well-coordinated traffic management strategy aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement across major roads and high-traffic areas in the state.

According to him, personnel have been strategically deployed to critical locations, including highways, major intersections, and areas expected to witness increased socio-religious activities during the festivities.

He added that LASTMA officials would operate round-the-clock monitoring and traffic control operations, in collaboration with other security and emergency agencies, to maintain order, enhance safety, and minimise disruptions.

The General Manager called on residents and visitors to cooperate fully with traffic officials, remain patient, and comply with all road safety guidelines, emphasising that collective responsibility is key to achieving a safe and efficient transportation system.

“As we celebrate this important occasion with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we urge all Lagosians to prioritise safety, respect constituted authority, and contribute to a peaceful and congestion-free environment,” he said.

Bakare-Oki reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to delivering effective traffic management services, particularly during peak and festive periods, in line with its mandate to ensure safer and more efficient transportation across Lagos State.
