MWUN successfully conducts district elections across Eastern ports, members laud leadership

Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of its President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has successfully concluded the Dockworkers District Elections across its outstations, recording what members have described as a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.

According to the Head, Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy, the elections, which formed part of the Union’s efforts to strengthen internal democracy and effective representation, were conducted in phases across major port locations in Warri, Calabar, Port Harcourt, and Bonny.

The first phase of the elections covered the Eastern Port Districts, comprising Delta Port and Julius Berger Districts, both held in Warri, Delta State.

The second phase spanned Calabar, FLT, FOT, INTELS, OMT, Central Pool Districts, as well as Port Harcourt Districts I and II, and the Bonny District, conducted in Calabar and Port Harcourt respectively.

At the conclusion of the exercise, new executives emerged across the districts to pilot the affairs of Dockworkers in their respective jurisdictions.

In Delta Port District, Comrade Gabriel Koma emerged as Chairman, with Comrade Charles Avwata as Vice Chairman, Comrade Paul Bolomu as Secretary, and Comrade Monday Aiyanyor as Assistant Secretary.

Others include Comrade Laju Atune as Treasurer, Julius Norah as Special Female Representative, and Sunday Sesi as NEC member, alongside other appointed officers, bringing the total number of officials to 24.

For the Julius Berger District, Comrade Samson Pere was elected Chairman, with Comrade Edemayibo Ormireju as Vice Chairman.

Other officers include Comrade Kenneth Atagan as Secretary, Jude Abilabor as Assistant Secretary, Orugboh Edonmi as Treasurer, Anuchie Collins as NEC member, and Ebuwa Isibor as Special Female Representative, supported by additional appointed officers numbering 13.

In Calabar District, Comrade Maurice Edet emerged Chairman, while Comrade Uweh Ekpo became Vice Chairman.

Other elected officers include Comrade Joseph Rkpe as Secretary, Bassey Ekpeyong as Assistant Secretary, Akpan Joshua as Treasurer, Bassey Asuquo Etim as NEC member, and Margaret Ebiti Peter as Special Female Representative, with other appointed members bringing the total to 15.

The Central Pool District elected Comrade John Ebobo as Chairman, Comrade Amoo Bobola as Vice Chairman, Comrade Aniete Akpan as Secretary, Cyril Akpan as Assistant Secretary, and Godwin Acha as Treasurer. Stephen Dad emerged as NEC member, while Janet Okoro was elected Special Female Representative, supported by 18 appointed officers.

In the FLT District, Comrade Friday Ajilo was elected Chairman, with Comrade Asitonka Tende as Vice Chairman. Other officials include Gershon Abraham as Secretary, Patrick Chinda as Assistant Secretary, Zobari Nnodee as Treasurer, Lawrence Kalaiyo as NEC member, and Alou Ochu as Special Female Representative, alongside other appointed members numbering
