Summit of century, cold winds, hot topics, Trump meets Putin in Alaska

‎With geopolitical tension between world powers still at tensed heights, the world has been on its toes and lookout for cool-headed resolutions, compromises and agreements between leaders to bring about negotiated settlements.

From the war in Ukraine to the Israel-Gaza war, which most of the world has described as a 21st-century live-streaming genocide, to the Iran-Israel nuclear arms race, North Korea and South Korea military heat-up, the past few years have been chaotic, and the coming years seem uncertain and blurry.

‎In a breath of fresh air, The US and Russia who have been at heightened Geopolitical standoff due to the war in Ukraine which the Kremlin has repeatedly accused Washington of instigating a proxy war with its brother country Ukraine and Washington also accusing the Kremlin of launching and unprovoked and unjustified war in Ukraine, this has been at its peak for the past 3 years. There has been confirmed news of high-level talks between Russia and the US, which will take place in an interesting and significant location shared by both countries. Russia sold Alaska to the United States in 1867 in a closed-door and prolific meeting. The deal, known as the Alaska Purchase, was finalized on March 30, 1867, for $7.2 million (about 2 cents per acre). The U.S. formally took possession on October 18, 1867.

‎According to the Aide to the President of Russia, Yuri Ushakov, the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will be. The American side has just announced that an agreement was reached to hold a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Donald Trump of the United States next Friday, August 15, in Alaska.

‎Russia and the United States are close neighbours; they share borders. So it does make sense if our delegation simply crosses the Bering Strait, and if such an important and expected meeting between the two leaders takes place specifically in Alaska. Incidentally, it is in Alaska and the Arctic that the economic interests of our countries converge and prospects for implementing large-scale mutually beneficial projects arise.

‎However, the presidents will undoubtedly focus on discussing ways to reach a sustainable settlement to the Ukraine crisis. Looking ahead, we would naturally expect the next meeting between the presidents to be held on Russia’s territory. An invitation to that effect has already been made to the President of the United States. In conclusion, I would like to note that in the next few days, Moscow and Washington will, of course, be working vigorously and hard on the practical and political parameters of the Alaska summit. We expect this process will not be simple, but we will be engaged in it actively and consistently.

‎The meeting will undoubtedly be televised and probably be the best next Geopolitical closed-door meeting in the year due to its fragility, and the whole world is on its toes and looking out for the outcome.
