Youths, hope of tomorrow with Very Rev. Dr. Ejim Chukwu
The mistakes of the past
“Mistakes are effective teachers. Their consequences have a way of making lessons painfully clear. But those who learn from their mistakes are likely to develop wisdom. And success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same mistakes the second time”
Many people today are wearied of their present lives, some no longer enjoy their age. Others have lost the joy and entertainment of youthful age. If statistics should be drown, it would be summarized without doubt that about 60% of the people in the world today who are socially, financially and academically imbalance are caused by their past mistakes which are traceable to the youthful life.
So many people in their youthful age failed to understand that ‘youth’ is just a stage in life of a man and that these are another stage after that. And as such are subject to doing anything in life which is recorded to them as the mistake of their youth.
This is why the Bible says”
“Rejoice O young man in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth and walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes: but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment? (Ecclesiastics 11:9)
God understands that there are various activities that make up the life of a youth and his surroundings that was why after the commendation for the celebration of youth age, He warned us of the impending judgment on those people who celebrate their youthful age in levity and sins. And God knowing this advised thus:
Therefore, remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your fresh, for childhood and youth are vanity. (Ecclesiastics 11:10).
As you are going through this book I do not know your own mistake. Is it in life career, employment opportunities, and business opportunities, marriage, friendship or your way wardens? Such mistakes must have landed you where you where you did not expect, you must have also struggled to correct such mistakes, and to you it seems difficult or rather impossible, well I want you to know that nothing is impossible with God.
“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Luke 18:27)
Therefore you cannot remain as a victim of your past. “Consider Moses, the lawgiver and liberator to whom God gave the Ten Commandments. His name is known all over the earth, 4000 years after his death. But remember, the same Moses was a murderer. He was listed in Egypt as a public enemy number one. He was a fugitive from justice he fled to wilderness where he lived for 40 years as a shepherd. Yet this same Moses was chosen by God and counted as the only person who can stand in Pharaoh’s majestic palace and announce , ‘let my people go ‘. This was possible because he refused to let his pas determine his present and future statue. “So don’t be paralyzed by your past. If God used Moses, he will use you. Only take the following corrective measure and your life will be repositioned to achieve your divine destiny.
MEASURES TO CORRECTIING YOUR PAST MISTAKES
- Identification of the past mistakes: One major disease that kills does not knowing the disease itself. The possibility of correcting any mistake is finding out the mistake you made.
“And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord saying, we have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God and also served Baalim”. (Judges 10:10)
When the children of Israel were under going defeats and suppression from the hands of their enemies, they reasoned and identified the source of their suffering which is their idol worship. They identified the mistake as “forsaken their God and serving Baalim” it was easy for them to start the correction because they were able to identify what actually was the mistake they made. Brother/Sister you must identify what exactly was your mistake before any other measure . Can you think back concerning what ever suffering or problem you are passing through and find out the cause ? This is the first step.
- Confession of such mistakes:
“He that covers his sins shall not prosper ; but whosever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy “ (Prov. 28:13)
If your mistakes must be forgiven and blot out, you must confess it. Confession simply means owing up what you have done as being wrong and expressing it e.g. admitting that you are quilt of those crimes or mistakes. He that covered his sins will not proper. Some people who suffer persistent financial instability and health insecurity could be as a result of their struggle to cover their sins. Open up and admit your faults and God will have mercy on you.
- Determine to forsake those things that caused you such mistakes:
You have succeeded in identifying and confessing those mistakes. Then the next thing is to draw a conclusion that you will not make such a mistake again. You say to yourself I will never make this type of mistake in my life again. Believe God as you are making the statement repeatedly. Remember , being determined is making a firm decision to do something and not letting anything or anybody to prevent you from doing it. This means that once you are determined not to make such a mistake again, no power or circumstance can make you to do it. But there this determination can firmly work out you must have done something.
- Take action to back up your decision and determination:
The scripture says that “ faith without work is dead” for your discovery , confession and determination to work out effectively , there must be “action.” Identify your mistake, confess your mistake , determine not to make it again then start right away to practice, letting it not happen again.
A young boy impregnated a girl and because he was not prepared to marry her forces her to abort the child. After that incident, he was grieved by fear of unprepared –ness the he decided not to make such mistake of impregnating another person. For months later, he impregnated another girl and gave her money for abortion. After that he took decision not to make such mistake. This time he is determined but after few months he impregnated another girl. This pained him because he was hasty in taking decision, but he had not discovered the origin of his problem and all his decisions and actions had been false. When he was worried about what his life is becoming, he then embarked on tracing the genesis of his peculiar mistake. Later, he discovered that his problem was that he was too loose to girls and easily goes in with them.
First, he has identified his mistake as being too loose to girls. As soon as he discovered this, he said to God, “I am sorry for my evil did and now I am tired id this life, God forgives me. I am deciding for you today that I will not make such mistake in my life again. For this reason I am cutting off my close relationship with girls from today. Please come and take control of my life as from today and be my only close friend.”
Immediately after this confession the young boy called on those girls one alter the other and apologized for his evil did to them and told them that he did not need any of them again that he has made a new and closest friend. He did not stop it by mere telling them his new decision and determination, but he relocated himself to Jesus Christ and from that moment he became a new creature. For the bible says,
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away behold all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
If you are really tired of that your present condition and you have actually identified the mistake, I want you to make that confession of this young boy above and take the same action he took and I assure you that there will be no regret in your life again. Remember the action is just calling on our Lord Jesus Christ to take control of your life simple!
God bless you!
